I don’t know if anyone mentioned this to you while you were at WEsttown, but we met Max Carter! In Palestine, of all places! He was a pretty rad dude. I want his beard when I’m his age.

  • Paula Rucker Says:

The best way to get into Manhattan on a bike would be a ferry from Weehawken, NJ or Staten Island, NY. You could also take the PATH train from Newark, Jersey City or Hoboken, but I don’t know if that is “against the rules.”

  • Robert Says:

Go over the Bayonne Bridge in Bayonne, NJ to Staten Island. From the Staten Island side of the bridge it is about a 45 minute bike ride (depending on your speed) to the free ferry into Manhattan – there is a bike path on this route, but I am sure that most of it is littered with debris. After the 30 minute free ferry ride past the Statue of Liberty towards the picturesque skyline of downtown Manhattan, you have 10 – 15 minute bike ride on a safe dedicated bike path to the Brooklyn Bridge.

In high school, I biked from suburban Philly to Elizabeth NJ, just over the river. I too would probably get over to Staten Island and take the ferry. Maybe it’s not quite as kosher as pedaling across on the GWB but that’a a couple of miles of crazy congestion you don’t need. Boats are cool anyway!
