The Story of QuakerSpeak

In 2012 I had a dream for a Quaker video project that featured simple, intimate, weekly interviews with Quakers, but I didn’t know where to house it or how to fund it. Two years later I was announcing the QuakerSpeak youtube channel. 223 videos and 6 years later, the channel had accumulated 3.5 million views. Here’s how it happened.

It has been an honor to serve Friends as the founder and director of QuakerSpeak. Now I am pleased to announce my next endeavor, a Quaker media project for the modern era. Find out more at TheeQuaker.org

  1. I’m honored to be considered a mentor, Jon, but in truth, I’ve learned far more from thee! So grateful for this ministry. Continue to mind the Light!

  2. I have enjoyed and seen so much value in thy leading of Quaker Speak. I trust it can continue and thee will, out of the silence hear what is next while sitting in discernment.
Thank thee for bringing so much for public acess.

  3. Ah, Jon! So good to be reminded of your journey that led to QuakerSpeak. I’ve followed you with admiration and gratitude from your time at Pendle Hill, through your rather unorthodox on-line discernment process, and throughout the results of your faithfulness to the leading that became QuakerSpeak.

I’ve been personally touched by so many of the videos and know I’ll return to them and refer people to them. Thank you for sharing your curiosity, interview skills, and faith in these new ways. I continue to hold you in my heart as you discern next steps. I pray they’ll include some time of rest and renewal; your work asks much of you. Blessings and thanks, my friend .

  4. Jon, years ago, I believe we met at the Burtt House of the Ithaca Monthly Meeting.

Today I am a member of the Visalia Friends Meeting in the Central Valley of California. Once a month, we show a QuakerSpeak video after Meeting for Worship. The videos are always so helpful in situating our beliefs and informing our practice.

    Many blessing and in solidarity,

    Daniel O’Connell
